These are firm orthotics, not soft cushions — the rigid arch is what keeps them from collapsing under load. Your feet need a few days to adjust.

Days 1–2: Wear 2–3 hours.
Days 3–5: Build up to half a day.
Day 6+: Full-day wear.

Mild arch pressure in the first week is normal and fades. Don't go straight to a 12-hour shift on day one — that's the most common mistake.
Order your normal shoe size. Between sizes? Size up and trim down.

To fit: Pull out your existing insole, lay it on top of the WalkHero as a template, and trim the toe end along the guide lines. Never trim the heel or arch — that's the support structure.

Fits sneakers, work boots and most closed shoes. Very low-volume dress shoes and slim flats are a tight fit.

Foam Goes Flat. This Doesn't.

Most insoles are foam and gel. Press on them and they collapse — which is exactly what happens under your body weight by hour four of a shift. The WalkHero Cloudstep is built on a rigid TPU arch shell that won't fold, won't flatten, and won't quit halfway through your day. Bend one yourself when it arrives. That resistance you feel is the whole point.

Hour Ten Shouldn't Feel Like This.

Concrete floors don't give. Neither do steel-toe boots or hospital corridors. If you're on your feet for ten or twelve hours, your arch is carrying load the entire time — and soft insoles stop supporting it long before your shift ends. Cloudstep is rated for 220+ lbs and engineered to hold its shape from clock-in to clock-out. Built for nurses, warehouse crews, line cooks, and anyone whose job doesn't include sitting down.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the WalkHero Cloudstep.

The Product

What exactly makes these different from drugstore insoles?

Most cheap insoles are foam or gel all the way through. They feel soft in the shop and go flat under real load. The Cloudstep is built around a rigid TPU arch shell with a deep heel cup — a structural part that holds its shape rather than compressing. The cushioning sits on top of that structure, not instead of it. Press one and try to fold it. That resistance is the difference.

What does "rated for 220+ lbs" actually mean?

The arch shell is engineered to resist deformation under the load a heavier body puts through it. Most insole brands never publish a weight figure at all, which is why so many people over 200 lbs find that supports "work for a week and then stop." You can wear these if you weigh less than 220 lbs — the rating is a floor, not a requirement.

What's it made of?

A rigid TPU shell forms the arch and heel cup, with a shock-absorbing heel pad and a layered foam midsection above it. The top cover is a moisture-wicking fabric that helps manage sweat and odour over a long day. There's no gel bladder to burst and no thin foam layer that packs down in a month.

Who are these actually for?

People who spend their day standing and want firm structural support rather than a soft cushion — nurses, warehouse crews, line cooks, teachers, tradesmen, retail staff, mail carriers and walkers. They're also a common choice for people with flat feet, fallen arches or overpronation who want more support than a stock shoe insert provides.

How long do they last before I need a new pair?

Roughly 6 to 9 months for daily wear, longer if you're not on them all day. The shell outlasts the top cover, so the usual sign it's time is the cushioning feeling thin rather than the arch giving way. If you're on concrete for 10+ hours a day, plan closer to the 6-month end.

Fit & Break-In

They feel hard and the arch feels high. Is that normal?

Yes — and it's the single most important thing to know before you start. These are firm orthotics, not soft cushions. If your feet have been in flat, unsupported shoes for years, a properly supported arch feels strange at first. Mild pressure through the first week is normal and settles as your feet adjust. Follow the break-in schedule below rather than pushing through it — that's what turns a rough first day into a comfortable second week.

What's the break-in schedule?

Days 1–2: two to three hours a day.
Days 3–5: build up to half a day.
Day 6 onward: full-day wear.

The most common mistake is going straight into a 12-hour shift on day one. If a day feels like too much, drop back a step and build again. Most people are at full wear inside a week.

What size do I order, and how do I trim them?

Order your normal shoe size. If you're between sizes, size up and trim down.

To fit: pull the existing insole out of your shoe, lay it on top of the Cloudstep as a template, and trim the toe end along the printed guide lines. Never trim the heel or the arch — that's the structural part, and cutting into it removes the support you paid for.

Will they fit my work boots and my sneakers?

Yes to both, as long as you remove the shoe's original insole first — stacking them makes the shoe too tight and lifts your heel out of the counter. They work well in work boots, running shoes, trainers and most closed shoes.

The honest limits: very low-volume dress shoes, slim flats and slip-ons are a tight fit, and open-backed shoes won't hold them properly.

How do I clean them?

Wipe the top cover with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air dry away from direct heat. Don't put them in the washing machine or the dryer, and don't leave them on a radiator — heat is what warps the shell and ends an insole's life early. Taking them out of your shoes overnight helps them dry between shifts.

Results & Expectations

How soon will I notice a difference?

Some people feel the support immediately. Most report a real difference somewhere between one and two weeks, once the break-in period is behind them. We'd rather tell you that plainly than promise instant results — anyone selling "relief in 20 minutes" is describing a cushion, not structural support. Give it the full 90 days before you decide.

I've been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. Will these help?

The Cloudstep is designed to support the arch and help reduce strain on the plantar fascia during standing and walking. It is not a medical device and it isn't a treatment for any condition.

Plantar fasciitis is a diagnosed condition, and if you're in ongoing pain the right first step is a doctor or podiatrist, who may recommend stretching, physical therapy or other care alongside supportive footwear. We'd rather point you there than oversell an insole.

Are these the same as custom orthotics from a podiatrist?

No — custom orthotics are moulded to your individual foot and prescribed by a clinician, and some conditions genuinely need that. What we offer is the same category of firm structural support in a prefabricated form, available today and at a fraction of the cost.

Research published by Harvard Health has found that prefabricated supports performed comparably to custom ones for heel pain in many cases. If you've been told you need custom orthotics for a specific clinical reason, follow that advice.

Can I run or hike in them?

Yes. Runners and hikers with flat feet or overpronation are a big part of who buys these. One thing worth doing: break them in during everyday wear before you take them on a long run, rather than discovering the adjustment period at mile eight.

Do I need one pair per shoe?

You can move a single pair between shoes, and plenty of people do. But if you're switching daily between work boots and trainers, most people end up buying a second pair so the support is always there and there's nothing to remember on the way out the door. Multi-packs are on the product page.

Shipping & Returns

How long does shipping take?

Orders are processed within 1–2 business days and typically delivered within 5–7 business days across the US. Standard shipping is free with no minimum, and express is available at checkout if you need them before your next block of shifts. Tracking is emailed as soon as your order ships.

What's your return policy?

90-day risk-free trial. Wear them to work. Walk on them. Put them through a full run of shifts. If they're not right for your feet, email us within 90 days for a full refund — even if they're worn. You don't need the box and you don't need to justify it.

We chose 90 days deliberately: firm support takes time to settle, and a 30-day window would mean judging them before they've had a fair shot.

Mine arrived damaged or the wrong size.

Email support@walkhero.com with a photo and your order number and we'll send a replacement — no return needed, no argument. Wrong size shipped is our error and we'll fix it the same way.

Do you do bulk orders for a team or workplace?

Yes — multi-packs are on the product page, and for anything larger (a warehouse crew, a nursing unit, a safety programme) email support@walkhero.com and we'll sort out pricing. They're also a popular gift for someone in the family who's on their feet all day.

Twelve-Hour Shifts, Still Standing

From warehouse floors to hospital wards — here's what people are saying.

★★★★★

"The first step out of bed was the worst sixty seconds of my day for about two years. I'd hold the dresser and put weight on it slowly like an old man. That's mostly gone now. I noticed one morning about ten days in that I'd just walked to the bathroom without thinking about it."

DW
Dale W.Toledo, OH
★★★★★

"Day one I thought I'd wasted my money. Felt like there was a rock under my arch and I took them out after four hours. Read the insert, started over doing two hours a day like it says. By day six I forgot they were in there. Stick with the break-in, it's the whole thing."

SH
Sandra H.Bakersfield, CA
★★★★★

"Paid $340 for custom orthotics in 2022 after a mold and a three week wait. Wore them for two months. They're in a drawer. These cost me less than dinner out and they do the same job. I'm not saying nobody needs customs, I'm saying I didn't."

GT
Greg T.Spokane, WA
★★★★★

"Twenty-two years on a concrete shop floor. Concrete does not care about you. My knees and my lower back were taking it as much as my feet. Three weeks in and the back thing has eased off too, which I did not expect and am not going to question."

RD
Ray D.Flint, MI
★★★★★

"I have flat feet, properly flat, and I've always assumed high arch support wasn't for me because the couple I'd tried felt like standing on a golf ball. This one took about ten days to stop noticing. Turns out the problem was never the support, it was that I'd been quitting on day two."

PL
Priya L.Edison, NJ
★★★★★

"Main thing I wanted to know before buying was whether they'd fit in steel toes without jamming my toes into the cap. Pulled the factory insole, trimmed about a half inch off the front along the line, went straight in. Size 13 Thorogoods, no issues."

JC
Jesse C.Odessa, TX
★★★★★

"I serve doubles on weekends, ten to eleven hours, mostly on tile. There's a point around hour eight where my arches start feeling like they're being pulled apart. That's moved back to hour ten or so, and honestly hour ten I'm nearly done anyway."

TM
Tara M.Savannah, GA
★★★★★

"Started moving one pair between my boots and my sneakers and got tired of it inside a week. Bought a second pair. Should've bought two from the start, everyone says this and everyone ignores it including me."

CV
Carlos V.Fresno, CA
★★★★★

"Bought these for my dad, 71, still doing four days a week at the hardware store and refuses to discuss slowing down. He is not a man who reports on his feelings. Three weeks later he asked me to order two more pairs. From him that's a standing ovation."

EF
Erin F.Louisville, KY
★★★★★

"FC nights, about eleven miles a shift according to my watch. Was replacing cheap inserts every six weeks because they'd pack down flat and I'd be walking on the shoe again. Been in these since October and they feel the same as week one."

DO
Devon O.Baltimore, MD
★★★★★

"Overpronator, half marathon training. These are excellent but do not do what I did, which was put them straight into my running shoes for a nine miler. That was a bad nine miles. Wore them around the house for a week after that, then eased into runs, and now they're in every pair I own."

HS
Hannah S.Boulder, CO
★★★★★

"Third grade. I sit down maybe twice between 7:40 and 3:15 and one of those is technically my lunch. Nobody thinks of teaching as physical until their feet start going. These got me through the whole spring semester."

MG
Monica G.Mesa, AZ
★★★★★

"Tip for anyone ordering: just get your actual shoe size, don't overthink it like I did. The trim line handles the rest and it took me about two minutes with kitchen scissors. Support's been excellent since."

KB
Kevin B.Boise, ID
★★★★★

"Gained a lot during two pregnancies and my arches basically gave up. Everyone told me to lose the weight and it would fix itself, which is easy to say and doesn't help you get through Tuesday. This helped me get through Tuesday."

NJ
Nicole J.Cincinnati, OH
★★★★★

"Kitchen, fourteen hour Saturdays, standing in one spot on rubber mats that gave up in 2019. My clogs had no support to begin with. These have more structure than the shoe does at this point, which tells you something about the shoe."
